Collaborative Strategy/co-management Strategy

In addition to the general requirements for all groups, requirements for your specific group’s strategy project include:
  • Identify the stakeholders involved and each parties interests
  • Identify the weaknesses (and strengths, if any) of the existing laws, policies, rules and regulations .
  • Identify the advantages of existing laws, policies and regulations for your party.
  • Find areas, if any currently exist, where parties already agree.
  • Identify areas or disagreement.
  • Identify possible allies for the issue.
  • Craft a memorandum of agreement (MOA) or a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that details a strategy for resolving the issue.
Explain how you went about the process of securing agreement by the parties (what advantages did you identify for each stakeholder in becoming a party to the agreement? How did you get them to “buy in” to the agreement?

You should have a minimum of 12 sources for your project (academic journal articles, books—including our textbook, government documents, and some websites. Don’t forget—the reserve readings may also contain appropriate sources for your project.)

Explain which types of environmental justice your strategy addresses as described in Kuehn’s taxonomy:
  • Distributive Justice
  • Corrective Justice
  • Procedural Justice
  • Social Justice

Explain why a collaborative/co-management strategy will be more effective for achieving environmental justice in this particular situation than using a legal/legislative or public relations/media strategy.
